Customize flexible solar panel for Hummer H3 hood
Solar panels are becoming an indispensable part for people in overlanding, but many of the standard solar panels available on the market are not so suitable for mounting on the car’s hood, we received a Shawn’s email about his Hummer H3 hood Demand for custom solar panels. Thanks Shawn’s feedback of the flexible solar panel which we customed for his Hummer H3 hood, and share us his installation pictures.
1. Shawn located in the U.S., El paso, TX, USA, he contacted us this year and asked if we could custom a flexible solar for his Hummer H3’s hood.
“I am looking to install a flexible solar panel on my vehicle and was wondering if you are limited to just squares or rectangles. The dimensions are roughly. 35″ long x 34″ at the top tapering down to 31″ at the bottom. I currently have a 60 watt panel mounted on my roof rack and I want to clear up some space. I would like to keep the panel at about 50-80 watts, if it’s possible to squeeze more that would be awesome. I use it for long overland trips to keep a battery bank charged. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I can provide better dimensions, just wanted to see if this is feasible for you and also the cost.”

“thanks for the custom panels. After a little trimming it fit perfectly in the hood. Didn’t have full sun today but I was getting 1.98 amps to my batteries with it being overcast. Couldn’t be happier with the end result. I will update this as time goes by. Thanks again!!”
“The panel is held in place with double side 3M tape, I did not put a piece of vinyl down before I placed the panel. It is attached straight to the hood.”
Lensun: Do you want to charge the original battery of the car or second battery? How much AMS is the battery?
Shawn: On the white H3, I have it set up for extended traveling. The buzz word in America right now is overlanding. This panel will keep auxiliary batteries charged and topped off. I have two optima yellow top 34 batteries(two AGM yellow top Optimum 55AH battries.) that run my fridge, and different accessories.
